TOMÁS SARACENO

El trabajo de Saraceno se despliega en el cruce entre arte, arquitectura, ciencia, técnología y activismo. Sus propuestas buscan aportar conocimientos y experiencias colectivas para enfrentar algunas de las problemáticas más urgentes del presente. Sus proyectos llaman la atención sobre la necesidad de renovar estilos de vida e indagan sobre formas alternativas y sustentables de transporte, comunicación y habitabilidad.

En ocasiones, despliega su obra fuera de los circuitos artísticos y tiene lugar en el espacio aéreo o en paisajes, como desiertos o salares, en diálogo con las comunidades locales. Sus exhibiciones suelen acercar a museos y galería propuestas radicales que modifican los usos tradicionales del espacio, involucrando al público en experiencias corporales desafiantes y de cooperación. Las obras también integran fenómenos fuera del rango de lo visible, como las vibraciones que producen cuerpos y materiales, o tienen como parte y destinatarixs a habitantes no-humanxs del lugar, como las arañas. En ese sentido, en cada proyecto, el artista trama un sistema orgánico de relaciones entre público y entorno para abrir canales de comunicación y sociabilidad que cruzan las fronteras entre sentidos y especies.

Saraceno es un observador planetario que encuentra referencias formales y estéticas en fenómenos tan amplios como los ritmos de las corrientes de aire y las redes ecosistémicas que hacen a la atmósfera y la biosfera, integrándolos en su producción de manera plástica, escultórica, instalativa y también fotográfica. Trabaja junto con un enorme equipo de colaboradorxs para desarrollar investigaciones en conjunto desde distintos saberes, especialistas e instituciones científicas. Unión de utopía y posibilidad, la práctica artística de Saraceno expande los límites del arte contemporáneo al servicio de nuevos horizontes. De lo microscópico a lo cósmico, en esa intersección, sus intereses abarcan diversas áreas de estudio y acción que se entrelazan para diseñar e impulsar proyectos de transformación social y ambiental.

TOMÁS SARACENO CV

Nació en 1973 en Tucumán, Argentina.

Estudió arquitectura en la Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires y recibió títulos de postgrado de la Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes Ernesto de la Cárcova, Buenos Aires (2000) y de la Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste -Städelschule-Frankfurt am Main (2003). En 2009, asistió al Programa Internacional de Estudios Espaciales en el Centro Ames de la NASA en Silicon Valley CA, y ese mismo año recibió el prestigioso Premio Calder.
