We are pleased to share that Adrián Villar Rojas has been honored with the 2026 Lewis Family Art Award, presented by the Aspen Art Museum during its traditional ArtCrush gala, one of the most important events on the international art calendar.
The award recognizes a unique artistic practice developed through large-scale, site-specific projects, in which sculpture, architecture, drawing, video, writing, scientific research, and digital technologies come together to shape complex and immersive worlds. Throughout his career, Villar Rojas has developed a body of work that reflects on memory, transformation, extinction, and the multiple relationships between human and non-human entities.
The recognition coincides with the presentation of Adrián Villar Rojas: First Gods, Lost Animals, a major solo exhibition at the Aspen Art Museum occupying two floors of the building. The exhibition explores the cave as both a geological and symbolic space, bringing together new works and installations that delve deeper into some of the central questions of the artist’s practice.
